Washington, DC - June 16, 2005 -- SCA announced today that is has renewed the Association's National Alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in a signing ceremony at OSHA Headquarters in Washington, DC.  Acting Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health John Snare was present.

On January 31, 2003, SCA and OSHA signed a two-year National Alliance to promote safe and healthful working conditions for shipyard employees.  The Alliance focuses on using OSHA's and SCA's collective expertise to help advance a culture of injury and illness prevention while sharing best practices and technical knowledge and promoting safe and healthful working conditions for shipyard employees.

The new two-year Alliance will continue promoting safe and healthful working conditions for shipyard employees, and also provide resources in response to OSHA's planned issuance of the shipyard voluntary ergonomic guidelines later this year.

SCA Chairman Herschel Vinyard commented, "The open communication and direct access to compliance assistance tools made possible through the National Alliance with OSHA was the impetus behind our members' achievement of safety and health excellence.  SCA looks forward to continuing the Association's substantial reduction in incidence rates by signing this renewal agreement."
