SCA Remembers “Butch” King at Annual General Membership Meeting
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Matt Paxton, SCA President | (202) 347-5462

At the Shipbuilders Council Annual Washington, DC Meeting held April 27-29, 2009, membership remembered and shared fond memories of BG (ret) Boyd E. “Butch” King, CEO of VT Halter Marine and vice chair of SCA.

Outgoing SCA chair Steve Welch, President of Todd Pacific Shipyards, said “Butch King left a record of tremendous accomplishment and was a great man.  After rising to the rank of Brigadier General in the US Army and working for Booz Allen Hamilton, Butch was the perfect person to lead VT Halter – restoring the confidence of its people and increasing its capability.  On the Board of SCA, Butch was an outstanding contributor and we will miss his wisdom – which was always delivered with characteristic directness.”

BG (Ret) Boyd King, know affectionately as Butch, joined VT Halter Marine on December 16, 2002, as Chief Executive Officer. Before his appointment at VTHM, Mr. King was a retired Brigadier General with a 35-year career in the United States Army, culminating in his appointment as Director of Transportation, Energy and Troop Support on the Army Staff. He was also a graduate of the Army War College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.

SCA President Matthew Paxton said, "Butch was an obvious leader and provided such an important role on our Board, he can never be replaced and will be deeply missed."
