CONTACT: Ian Bennitt (202) 347-5462

On October 1-2, 2008, SCA co-hosted its 2nd Fall Safety and Health Seminar with the Virginia Ship Repair Association in Norfolk, VA. The seminar brings together federal agency, industry and safety professionals to candidly discuss shipyard safety and health issues.

This seminar, the second of its kind, drew 130 attendees from across the country to hear presentations on 4 different tracks titled Health in the Shipyard; Hazard Recognition, Assessment, and Corrective Action; Worksite Conditions; and Maritime Regulations. SCA’s Safety Committee was also treated to a tour of Colonna’s Shipyard, along with a lunch.

Through the SCA-OSHA National Alliance, Mr. Angelo Costa from OSHA’s Norfolk, VA Area Office was able to provide the group with an update and question and answer session on the Agency's employer paid PPE final rule.

Our next meeting will be held next spring in a location TBD on the Gulf Coast.
