SCA Issues
SCA tackles a broad rage of issues affecting the U.S. shipyard industrial base. Our mission is to represent U.S. shipyards by participating actively in the legislative and regulatory processes and informing members and the public on issues important to the industry… We strive to:
· Take a leadership role in promoting quality, safety and environmental responsibility in shipyards;
· Provide a forum for discussion of issues affecting the industry;
· Promote cooperation among vessel owners, operators and shipyards;
· And provide a clearing-house for members concerns and act a source of information for the press, public and government.
SCA Priorities Include…
-- Support and protection of the Jones Act;
-- Advancing legislation and regulations that benefit the shipyard industrial base;
-- Ensuring that Jones Act vessels and U.S. Government vessels are built, rebuilt and repaired in U.S. shipyards;
-- Securing full funding for the Small Shipyard Assistance Program;
-- Raising the profile of the industry within U.S. Government and obtaining proactive Government advocacy for the industry;
-- Maintaining and enforcing the OPA 90 retirement schedule;
-- Promoting a constructive dialog with other industry associations;
-- Reducing industry accidents by regularly conducting safety seminars and other educational programs;
-- Holding “major issue” meetings and conferences;
-- Building cooperative relationships between industry and regulators;
-- and securing annual funding for the Title XI Shipbuilding Loan Guarantee Program;
