SCA and Signal International Host the Spring Safety & Health Seminar in Biloxi, MS

On March 26th and 27th 2008, SCA hosted its Spring Safety and Health Seminar at the Beau Rivage Hotel in Biloxi, MS. Held twice a year by member shipyards, the seminar brings together federal agency, industry and safety professionals to candidly discuss shipyard safety and health issues.

The seminar drew 40 attendees, all of whom found the day beneficial and informative. Seminar sponsors included the American Equity Underwriters, 3M, Avitar On Site Diagnostics, MSA, and SeaBright Insurance Company.

Through the SCA-OSHA National Alliance, Mr. Clyde Payne from OSHA’s Jackson, Mississippi Area Office was able to provide the group with an Agency Regulatory Update and field questions. The group also heard presentations on issues such as fall protection standards and a respiratory/HexChrome update.

Our next meeting will be held this fall in conjunction with the Virginia Ship Repair Association in Norfolk, VA.
