Washington, DC – February 14, 2007 -- SCA announced today the renewal of the Association's National Alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The two-year agreement was signed last Thursday during a ceremony after a Maritime Advisory Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH) meeting in Baltimore, MD. Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health Edwin G. Foulke, Jr. delivered opening remarks.
On January 31, 2003, SCA and OSHA signed a two-year National Alliance to promote safe and healthful working conditions for shipyard employees. The Alliance was renewed again in June 2005. The agreement focuses on using OSHA's and SCA's collective expertise to help advance a culture of injury and illness prevention while sharing best practices and technical knowledge and promoting safe and healthful working conditions for shipyard employees.
The new two-year Alliance will continue promoting safe and healthful working conditions for shipyard employees, and also provide training resources for non-English speaking shipyard workers.
SCA Chairman Donald T. "Boysie" Bollinger commented on the signing. "SCA welcomes the opportunity to renew the SCA-OSHA National Alliance. Since 2003, the Alliance Program has given our members the tools necessary to promote workplace safety and health initiatives, keeping our workers safe and shipyards competitive. The Alliance's focus on compliance assistance has enabled SCA and OSHA to jointly develop an impressive collection of industry tools, including the Shipyard Employment eTool. OSHA representatives are also an integral part of SCA’s biannual Safety Seminar. Together, SCA and OSHA have accomplished great things and we look forward to another successful two years."
