SCA Participates in Maritime Career Conference

On April 1st and 2nd, 2008, Ian Bennitt, Manager of Government Affairs for SCA, along with representatives from SCA member yards BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair, Colonnas Shipyards, and Atlantic Marine participated in the Ship Operations Cooperative Panel (SOCP) Maritime Career Conference.

The two day conference included various workshops designed to allow the most flexibility for attendees to participate in the sessions that interested them the most, and in each were in small group settings. Time was allowed for interaction with vendors, employers and primary, secondary and post secondary educators.

Ian Bennitt, SCA, moderated the workshop titled Shipyard Apprentice Programs. The shipyards on the panel include AKER, Atlantic Marine, BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair and Northrop-Grumman.  Representatives from the yards discussed their apprentice and out reach programs to interest students in a career in shipbuilding.
