Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Lockport, LA has teamed with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Houston South Area Office to develop a PowerPoint presentation assisting shipyards in identifying daily hazards.  The presentation examines specific hazard situations, identifies the correlating OSHA regulation and recommends abatement strategies.  The collaboration is made possible through the SCA–OSHA Strategic Partnership Program.

On April 23, 2001, SCA and OSHA signed a one-year Strategic Partnership Program Agreement (OSPP) for Worker Safety and Health to increase occupational safety and health awareness, and reduce injuries and illnesses at participating SCA member sites located in and around the Houston Area.  The current partnership is renewed until 2007.

Regional Safety Coordinator for Bollinger Shipyards, Inc., Paul Savoie commented, “This joint project is another example of the positive impact the SCA Strategic Partnership has had on Bollinger’s relationship with OSHA.  The presentation will provide the tools necessary to identify potential hazards and develop solutions based on sound judgment.  We look forward to collaborating with OSHA on future projects that will enable the entire industry to achieve safety and health excellence.”

OSHA maintains a website dedicated to the Strategic Partnership Program.  It can be found at http://www.osha.gov/dcsp/partnerships/regional/region6.html.  Scroll down the page, the SCA-OSHA Strategic Partnership is #126.  SCA hosts a website on the Strategic Partnership, located at http://www.shipbuilders.org/root.asp?guid=259.
