The OSHA Maritime Alliances (including the SCA-OSHA Alliance), OSHA National Office Directorates, and Maritime Steering Committee have joined together to produce an interactive video/DVD series entitled “Fatal Shipyard Accidents: Hazards and Solutions.” The videos use computer animation to showcase various types of shipyard mistakes, the reasons why these accidents happen and how to prevent the same fatalities from happening in the future. Specifically, Volume 1 covers crane, confined space, and improper use hazards. Volume 2 covers crane hazards and drowning hazards.
To access the series online, visit OSHA's website: http://www.osha.gov/dts/maritime/video/shipyard_accidents.html or contact Brian Elliott to request a DVD copy from the SCA offices.
The objective of the video/DVD is to eliminate unsafe work practices at shipyards. Shipyard safety professionals can supplement their safety meetings and safety training courses with these videos and other tools available from OSHA.
The video/DVD was presented at the “Prevention in a Globalized World – Success through Partnerships” themed XVII World Congress on Safety and Health at Work, held in Orlando FL from September 18 – 22. It won a certificate for being in the top 10 submissions of over 150 submissions, world-wide.
